Discovery NotesThis phage was isolated on M. smegmatis stlr02. It hails from the grounds of the University of Pittsburgh's Sutherland Hall and was found in moist, mulch-like soil that contained many bugs. The soil was also cold and very dark brown. A layer of wood chips was above it, and the general area had many coniferous trees.
Naming NotesMy cat of about 16 years is named Kiwi. Her name resulted from her small size as a kitten; when curled up she resembled a kiwi fruit. Perhaps this mycobacteriophage will prove similarly small relative to its peers! (Update: It didn't.)
