Discovery NotesI found my soil sample on a trail in Lost River Cave on Sunday, August 25th at 1:46 PM. It was very hot, sunny, and a little humid as it had been raining the previous day. I collected the soil after digging around 1 inch into the dirt with a plastic spoon.
Naming NotesI decided to name my bacteriophage Kochu, which is short for my middle name, Kochuthresia. In Malayalam, the language I speak at home, Kochuthresia means "little," which connects well to bacteriophages, as they are among the smallest organisms in the world.
