Discovery Notes | The soil sample was collected in the midsection of University Pl, which encompasses large dormitory Mark A. Nordenberg Hall and performance hall Soldiers and Sailors. The soil sample was extracted from in between two types of vegetation, in a landscaped section separated from a larger planted tree by a concrete walkway. Of the two types of vegetation surrounding the sample, one is a flowering plant. The flowering plant exists in abundance, in flowering the colors pink, red, and white; there are also some co-dominant plants, showing both pink and white petals. The other plant surrounding the left perimeter of the soil sample is a class of shrub, possibly a breed of a box shrub. In addition, the atmospheric temperature was 66º Fahrenheit throughout the collection time which lasted about six minutes. The characteristics of the surface soil (of area in which the soil sample was extracted) obtained was exceptionally moist. The sample mostly consists of the soil about one inch below the surface the soil, which consisted of the same damp characteristics. The EM micrograph was obtained 11/01/2017. |
Naming Notes | Lejandra (Lay-hahn-druh) is from the name Alejandrea (Ah-lay-hahn-drayuh). This is a short segment of the name of a family member who was a native to Iloilo City, Philippines. She was a gardener and owned a farm of many animals and crops of which she sold to neighbors and the town. Therefore, this phage is named after her along with the month and date of her birthday. |

Lysogeny Notes | There was no prolonged lysogen testing performed throughout the period at which Lejandra118 has been characterized thus far. It is expected that Lejandra118 is a lytic phage, however lysogen testing will be performed as a future assurance and test that it does or does not have the capacity to be a lysogen. |

Plaque Notes | There was one positive clearing about 5cm wide that was present in the location I placed a circle prior to PYCa plate incubation in the 30ºC for two days. The bacterial lawn appeared largely well-grown and dispersed throughout the PYCa plate with a beige color. There are some other clear sections throughout the PYCa plate that may have been not well-grown sections of the bacterial lawn. In addition, there are some abnormalities in the swirl/wave like characteristics in the lawn that are more inherently beige or white and slightly coagulated. The clearing was circular in shape, no signs of turbidity, and exceptionally clear. |
