Discovery NotesThe soil sample which my phage was isolated from was taken from a tire rut outside of a factory. The area was exposed to direct sunlight. The weather on the day of collection was 96°F and sunny.
Naming NotesThe name Lingchi is of Chinese origin and translates to "slow process", "the lingering death" or "slow slicing". Lingchi is more commonly know as Death by a Thousand Cuts. I chose this name for two reasons: my phage seemed to be slowly dying throughout much of this process, and I hope that my phage is able to be the "Bacteria Executioner" and be used in phage-therapy.

Plaque NotesPlaques formed by Lingchi are relatively small (1-2 mm in diameter) bulls eyes. There are almost always 2 visible rings, both of which are turbid with the outer being significantly more turbid than the inner. There is also a center to the bulls eye that is clear, but it is not easily visible in all plaques. It should also be noted that plaques tended to push against one another while maintaining relatively clear boundaries between adjacent plaques.
