Discovery NotesCollected at 9:45am and located at 38.45873557814735, -90.28657766728327 at a depth of 1-5 cm. The sample is approximately 20mL of saturated mud made up of approximately 60% clay and 40% slit with little organic matter present.

The site is located at Cliff Cave Park where the cave stream empties into the Mississippi river on the west bank. The area surrounding the immediate sample site is an area of thick saturated mud with thick weeds and large rocks on the banks. Note: this area spends most of the year underwater and there are a large quantity of animal tracks present.
Naming NotesThe name Lutumacus come from the Latin name for Mud Needle. I choose this name because this Virus was found in mud and Viruses are like needles that inject there DNA into cells.
