Discovery NotesFound on Lafayette College campus near a residence hall called McKeen Hall. Found in soil patch under the red stairwell connected to the building in the shade.
Naming NotesThe reason behind the name is that we wanted to combine the process of lysis (breakdown of bacteria) with the idea of a Velociraptor (a prehistoric predator). This idea makes the phage sound like a powerful predator in the process of destroying bacteria, similar to a raptor.
