| Discovery Notes | The soil sample collected is from my front yard garden area. I selected this site because it was convenient in the cold snowy weather. The soil was solid towards the surface due to the snowfall a few days prior but about 1 1/2 inches deep the soil was slightly moist. Using a gardening shovel I dug about 2 inches into the soil before collecting my sample. The soil had rocks, and grass bits and was dark in color. |
| Naming Notes | I went to NYC for the first time this year. During this visit, I also went to my first ever Broadway show, "MJ" and it was the best thing I have ever seen. This is why I named my phage MJay. |

| Plaque Notes | Phage MJay is lytic with a clear center and sharp round edges. The TEM help me classify my phage as Siphoviridae. This is because of its long flexible tail and hexagonal capsid. |
