| Discovery Notes | The sample was collected from a puddle on the corner of Daly Avenue nearest to the University of Montana campus in Missoula, Montana, at about 10:30 am on September 5th, 2011. The temperature on that day was approximately 82 degrees Fahrenheit (or 27.78 degrees Celsius). The puddle in question was fairly clean and clear looking despite a green algae growing throughout the bottom. The sample consisted of approximately two grams of moist dirt and sand taken from beneath about two inches of water. Being directly on a street corner, the water was constantly being disrupted. However, when this sample was taken, the sediment was not clouding in the water and had settled to the bottom of the puddle. At 10:30 am, sunlight was direct on the water, and there are no masses around to provide shade. |
