Discovery Notes | Found in a drainage pipe outside the Macey Center Playground and Golf Course at New Mexico Institute for mining and Technology. The soil was very wet, grainy, and was filled with a lot of stones and other biological materials. The soil was cool as it was found in the shade. Ambient temperature was not available. |
Naming Notes | Named after the character Master Splinter from the animated show Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles. This is because the characters are shown to live in a sewer and the phage was found in a drainage pipe, which is similar to a sewer in a sense. |
