Discovery NotesFound in a drainage pipe outside the Macey Center Playground and Golf Course at New Mexico Institute for mining and Technology. The soil was very wet, grainy, and was filled with a lot of stones and other biological materials. The soil was cool as it was found in the shade. Ambient temperature was not available.
Naming NotesNamed after the character Master Splinter from the animated show Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles. This is because the characters are shown to live in a sewer and the phage was found in a drainage pipe, which is similar to a sewer in a sense.
