Discovery NotesFound in dry, exposed soil next to the ponds on the east campus of James Madison University.
Naming NotesDuring the Siege of Bastogne during WW2, the German commander, General von Luttwitz, sent the americans a demand for surrender. He threatened to destroy the town and everyone it if the americans did not surrender in 2 hours. General Anthony McAulifffe responded with one word: "NUTS!". The american troops were able to hold back the germans until reinforcements arrived to free them.
