Discovery Notes | Meillia was obtained from soil that was collected near a driveway on land that has been cultivated by landscapers. Surrounding this plot of land were logs and trees. The soil sample was collected two to three inches beneath top soil and any natural debris found was removed. The sprinkler was on prior to collecting the sample, causing the soil to be damp. During collection the surrounding temperature was 76°F. |
Naming Notes | The name Meillia originates from a beloved cat named Milo whom I cared for. This cat was my aunts cat that I cared for over winter break. Although I am allergic to cats I enjoyed caring for him and I learned so much. Similarly, while discovering my phage I learned new skills through the process. Since the name Milo has been claimed I named my phage in a more feminine manner. |

Plaque Notes | The morphology of the plaques are presented at lysogenic. Since the plaques appeared to be hollow and have a halo surrounding it we can conclude their morphology. The approximate diameter measured was an average of 6mm, this included the halo. |
