Discovery Notes | The soil collected for this phage was found in Half Moon Bay District Park near a small stream surrounded by tall grass and trees. It was moist because of its proximity to the river and the shade of its environment. The area was relatively rich in organic material, as there were a significant number of plaque morphologies found in the plaque assay done with my soil sample. |
Naming Notes | Metis is a titan from greek mythology that was known for her shapeshifting abilities, planning and wisdom. I thought this name worked for my phage because of its plaque morphology, which is constantly changing size. I also thought Metis is a good example of valuing wisdom and discovery (similar to the phage discovery program our lab is a part of). |
Sequencing Information | |
Sequencing Complete? | No |
Genome length (bp) | Unknown |
Character of genome ends | Unknown |
Fasta file available? | No |
Characterization | |
Cluster | Unclustered |
Subcluster | -- |
Lysogeny Notes | So far, this phage appears to only go through the lytic life cycle (most likely is not a temperate phage). This is due to the clear nature of its plaques. |
Annotating Institution | Unknown or unassigned |
Annotation Status | Not sequenced |
Plaque Notes | So far, the plaques from this phage appear to be a mixture of small, medium, and large. They do not have a significant halo around them, and they are clear around the edges (suggesting this is a lytic phage). |
