Discovery NotesAround 12:20 pm on 09/19/2022, I collected wet soil samples on 37.27100°N, 76.71634°W. I was interested in this location because there is a small water stream interacting with the ecosystem which I taught was a perfect location for phages to grow. Also, The soil of this area is exposed to a constant number of environmental factors because every day hundreds of students walk, ride their bicycles, and even skateboard to get to their classes faster. After collecting four spoons of soil from an idealistic location, I carried out a few protocols of enrichments, dilutions, amplifications, isolation, and an electron microscope grid to visualize and get my phage's DNA.
Naming NotesI decided to call my phage Microphone because it has the peculiar shape of a microphone, an elongated body with a proportionally large head.
