| Discovery Notes | The soil I chose from Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens in Palos Heights, IL. It was very moist and wet. The location of the soil was under a bench near the lake that was easily accessible. I thought that the soil would be dry and have a crumbly texture since it was away from the pond, but it was more wet and moist due to the snow that was on top of it that melted away. In order to retrieve the sample, I picked up the soil with gloves and put it into a ziplock bag that was sterile. I retrieved 1/2 pound of soil. The physical description is that the soil was dark and it had a muddy consistency to it. There were no other types of debris found inside the soil sample such as small pieces of wood or roots sticking out. |
