| Discovery Notes | the soil was collected from an agricultural field that was currently in use for growing corn. I selected this site because agricultural soils are often heavily modified with pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers; all of these additions can change the bacterial community within the soil, and likely have an effect on the bacteriophages as well. Additionally, the site was close to a road, so runoff from the road - including salts - may have had a further impact on the microbial community. While I did not notice any animals at the time of collection, the site is not enclosed so it is likely traveled and occupied by many animals including birds and deer. |
| Naming Notes | The reason I chose to name my phage Naper was because I'm from Naperville and Naper is short for Naperville. |

| Plaque Notes | Plaque diameter: 1 mm (millimeter) Plaque radius: 0.5 mm I had small phages on my bacterial plates that measured a diameter of 1 mm (millimeter) or a radius of 0.5 mm (millimeter). My phage plaques were clear as well. Because my radius was small, I had a higher number of PFU required for to create a webbed plate. |
