Discovery Notes | A soil sample was collected on September 3, 2024 in the front yard of a residential neighborhood at 7:20 am. The time of collection was deliberate in an attempt to protect the sample from UV and heat. The sample was collected at the base of an olive tree (olea europaea) in an attempt to maximize the possibility of successfully collecting phage containing bacteria. The sample collected was fine tightly compact dirt with relatively low moisture despite the sprinklers being run the night prior. |
Naming Notes | The name Oliver was selected since the sample was collected from an olive tree, also because one of my dogs name is Oliver. Ole was chosen as a reference to to the chant people do at many sports games. Olea was also added to the name because it is the genus of the olive tree. |
