| Discovery Notes | Physical Characteristics of Extraction Site: -Moist -Over 20m from nearest foot / car traffic -2-4 inches below the surface (under a 2 inch mat of mulch) -Temperature: 25 degrees C -Weather: Sunny, dry. Last rain 1 day ago. -Organic material: Bark / mulch, alpine currant roots -Sample was taken by the roots of an alpine currant plant at Purdue’s Horticulture Park. It was loamy with lots of bark particles. It was situated in an opening near a wooded area, not too far removed from the main campus. Since it was discovered in a mulch bed, this phage may have been transported from wherever the mulch was sourced rather than being endemic to its area of isolation. |
