Discovery Notes | Location observations and conditions: 70 degree, clear sky weather ; in close proximity to flowers ; the soil collected was about a quarter inch under the surface ( under mulch ); street cars and pedestrians were in close proximity to soil site. Physical characteristics of soil sample: dark brown, clumpy and not soft, some debris, some small rocks included, pretty damp (almost wet), collected about a quarter inch from the surface, cooler than room temperature(possibly about 50 degrees F): touched through the plastic bag; transported for about an hour indoors in my backpack. |
Naming Notes | Because this is my first discovered phage, I wanted to name it something personal but relevant to its discovery. It was discovered outside of Panther Hall at the University of Pittsburgh and I am the class of 2021. |

Plaque Notes | The plaques present in the spot test were less than a millimeter in diameter and there were at least 100 of them, all very similar in size and shape. Most of them were pretty distinct, given their small nature, and clear. After the plaque purification, the plaques were about a centimeter in diameter. Some of these plaques were extremely clear and distinct, while some of them were not distinct or clear at all. The plaque that was utilized was a very distinct, centimeter in diameter plaque. There were no halos observed around the plaque. |
