| Discovery Notes | The soil was collected from a plant bed that contained palm plants. The fallen, dead leaves provided a thick covering for the soil. This allowed dark, moist conditions for bacteria to thrive. The rotting vegetation was about 1 1/2" thick. This plant bed was frequented by feral cats in the area. After rain, there was a strong musky odor coming from the plant bed. |
| Naming Notes | We wanted to play on the word "Phased" which means to carry out in gradual stages. Also it sounds like "Fazed" which means to disturb or disconcert. |
