Discovery NotesA soil sample was collected on 15SEPT2022 from a shaded damp area on the Mount St. Mary's University east campus near the ARCC. The soil sample was damp, shaded by tall grasses, and cooled from the surrounding environment due to being on the bank of a stream. The area was protected from direct sunlight by the tall grasses. The exterior temperature was 78°F. The phage were isolated by enrichment culturing at 25°C.
Naming NotesThe phage is named after former basketball coach, Jim Phelan, due to his history with Mount St. Mary’s athletics
and the fact that the phage was found close to the ARCC (athletic complex).
