Discovery Notes | I collected my soil sample from in front of the FFC (a dining hall on the Johns Hopkins campus) on September 19, 2016. It was 22°C and raining lightly at the time of soil collection. There was some landscaping, but I dug under the landscaping and collected my dirt sample from there. The soil was slightly damp, due to the rain. |
Naming Notes | When deciding what to name my phage, I texted my brother and asked him for suggestions. He said that I should name it 'PlayTop2100,' which is his screen name for when he plays video games. I agreed to do that because I didn't have any better ideas, and naming it after him can be a Christmas present. Merry Christmas, Ethan! |

Plaque Notes | PlayTop2100 has plaques that appear after 24 hours. The morphology of the plaques depends on the concentration of phage. At relatively high concentrations, the plaques are only about 1mm in diameter. At relatively low concentrations, plaques are 2-3mm in diameter. Plaques are low concentrations tend to have more distinct edges, whereas plaques at higher concentrations tend to have less distinct edges. |
