Discovery NotesOriginal soil sample collected on 9/7/24 by Erin Stanford in Alachua, Florida. The discovery site was humid and moist. I (Olivia Godfrey) performed all further procedures. Plaques indicate a dual morphology of small and medium sized plaques, all of which are turbid and round. Phage Qavah is a temperate, siphoviridae phage with an approximate capsid size of 210nm and approximate tail length of 60nm.
Naming NotesThe Hebrew word Qavah means "to wait upon the Lord with hope and expectation". It is referenced in Psalm 27:14, a verse that has been a major anchor in both my life and my phage discovery. Waiting faithfully means waiting actively, intentionally, and with hope, whether that be in life or in the lab!
