Discovery Notes | The soil sample was collected at the GPS coordinates of 40.4249 Latitude and -86.9157 Longitude at 10:27 AM on September 5rd, 2019.The soil sample was not wet, but not completely dry, so a bit moist. The soil was very loosely packed and spread out in the plastic bag once there was not a hand holding it in place. It was a dark brown color with many lumps of mulch. The soil was taken from a hole about 0.5 inches deep and in the foliage beds surrounding the fountain outside of Beering Hall here at Purdue University. The environmental temperature was 60°F or 15.56°C. Listed as follows are the weather conditions: cloudy, 81% humidity, 0 inches precipitation, pressure of 30.19 inHg, 10 miles visibility, an air quality index of 23, and a UV index of 0. |
Naming Notes | We felt inspired by the movement to discover aliens at a mysterious military installation to discover phages around campus. |

Plaque Notes | The plaque are about 1mm in diameter. These plaques have a clear center with no turbidity on the outside, and do not clump excessively together unless the plate is very full of pfu. The phages (viewed with EM) is siphoviridae because the length of the tail (203.125nm) was much greater than the size of the hexagonally shaped head (81.25nm in width and 93.75nm in height). |
