Discovery Notes | Soil sample was collected on 10/4/17 at around 9:30 a.m. The depth of the soil dug was approximately 3 inches. The temperature outside at the time of the discovery was 59 degrees Fahrenheit. The soil was dry and was located around patchy grass. The soil was a little powdery and also covered in leaf litter. |
Naming Notes | The name RainPhall was inspired by the appearance of my plates. After incubation when I would examine my plates, I constantly found the same pattern appearing on the agar. My plaques would form this type of gradient pattern on every plate. Towards the top of the plate, the phages would be very concentrated. However as you moved down the plate, the phages became less concentrated. Essentially the phages looked like rain coming down the plate, which is why this phage is called RainPhall |
