Lysogeny Notes | “Simbobway” is a part of the Siphoviridae family. This is due to the isometric heads and long non-contractile tails of the phage visible on the EM images. Additionally, small tail fibers can be seen on these images. Identification as a part of the Siphoviridae family provides information on the infection style of this phage. This family of phages use a general mechanism to infect having first steps of host recognition and binding. The tails fibers of these phages have evolved adhesive pieces on the tail fibers which allow for sensing of specific protein or saccharide receptors on the host's surface. (Goulet, A., et al, 2020) |
