Discovery NotesThe soil sample from which this phage was isolated can be found at the north end of CU Boulder campus, near Broadway and Pennsylvania. The sample was dark in color and rich.
Naming NotesThe name for this phage was inspired by the name of a card in a game my partner and I both like to play. The card behaves in the game like a bacterial infection or a bacteriophage infection; it just grows and grows! So, we thought the name fit.

Plaque NotesOn all the plates we grew out, this phage exhibited a purely lytic life cycle. The plaques were transparent deep, measuring roughly 3 mm each. All plates, beginning with the initial enrichment from which the phage was isolated, showed only one plaque shape, suggesting that a single bacteriophage capable of infecting M. smegmatis was isolated.
