Discovery NotesThis phage was donated by Sarah L. and Steph C. to Bryce Rooney and Longxiang Pan. The soil sample was collected near Posvar Hall at the University of Pittsburgh. It was collected from the surface of the soil. The soil was wet, and the weather was hot and humid. "Soil Boy" was isolated from the direct isolation plate from this sample.
Naming NotesWe called this phage "SoilBoy" because this phage thrives in soil, where the bacterial host Gordonia terrae 3612 can be found. This name was fun, met all the criteria, and was not taken.
