Discovery NotesThis was taken from about 5 cm under the surface of a cotton field that had been recently irrigated with lagoon water from a nearby swine farm. No leaf litter was present; it was a simple matter of scooping up soil with a 50 mL conical. Time was 8:00am 28 August 2017, ambient temperature about 25degC.
Naming NotesStarscream is from the Transformers franchise, a Decepticon second only to Megatron (name already taken). Besides being incredibly destructive, as phages are, Starscream is notoriously unreliable, exasperating, and treacherous, as phages also are when you are trying to get them to grow in the lab.
