Discovery NotesFound in a shaded forest area near a small pond in Kanata, Ontario. The soil sample was collected approximately 1.5 inches beneath the surface.

Genomic DNA was sequenced on a ONT Minion, R10.4.1 chemistry using rapid barcoding V14 and PCR amplification. The longest read was 47,986bp with 87% query cover, 89.2% identity to phage Bumble (cluster FH).
Naming NotesNamed Sylvas after the Latin word silva, meaning “forest.” The name reflects where the sample was discovered and the phage’s origin in the hidden layers of forest soil.
