Discovery NotesThe phage was collected in a soil sample under some brush outside the entrance of Ogden College Hall. The soil was rather wet and clumped together, but the weather was hot (91 degrees Fahrenheit) and humid.
Naming NotesThe phage reminded me of either a spine or a panpipe. Therefore, I named my phage Syrinx because the term has relevance to both observations (the syrinx is a severe spinal disorder, and is also the name of the nymph that was fashioned by Pan into the first panpipes).
