Discovery Notes | The soil sample was obtained in front of RIMAC gym at the University of California, San Diego on September 30, 2015 at an altitude of 128.47m and a time of 19:29:50 UTC. Characteristics of the discovery site were: 77ºF, Direct sunlight for the majority of the day, dry dirt, not packed down, easily separated, the deepest portion of dirt was ½ inch deep , sample gathered from surface downward. |
Naming Notes | The name Platentron was determined to be the name of this bacteriophage due to the large variation of the size of the initial plaques to that of the plaques formed after multiple purifications. Platentron refers to the adaptability and flexibility of this phage as well as it's ability to cause lysis of Streptomyces platensis cells. |
