Discovery Notes | Tieraona was collected on the line between where the woods ended and the grass began growing a few feet away from the sidewalk, ensuring that sun and shade were offered to the area. The sample was collected on a day with 78% humidity, a temperature of 23.3◦C, and the air pressure being 30 Hg with the weather being sunny. The soil collected had lots of plants and insects around it, showing that the soil housed a large ecosystem. |
Naming Notes | Tieraona was named after Dr. Tieraona Lowdog who told me that the best place for plants to grow is on the edge of a forest and a meadow where there is both sun and shade. When collecting environmental samples, I decided to look for phage on the edge of where some woods meets the lawn. If there were more plants that were able to grow there, it would make sense that other life forms would thrive where there were more plants, making the chances of finding phage larger. |

Plaque Notes | Teiraona’s plaques in the bacterial lawn are clear, so it can be assumed that she is a lytic phage. Tieraona has a large plaque size of 0.4 mm with all the plaques about the same size. Tieraona was collected from a direct isolation, indicating that there was a large concentration of bacteriophage in the sample. |
