Discovery NotesDate of soil collection: August 30, 2021 at 4:17 pm

Location: Purdue University Horticulture Garden, directly underneath/around the roots of the Toreador Cockscomb flowers.

Weather Conditions: 81 degrees Fahrenheit, 15% precipitation, 68% humidity, according to Google Weather at 4:17 pm. Overcast.

Soil Conditions: Collected dark and slightly damp/moist soil near the roots of the flowers. This may have been due to previous precipitation or watering of flowers.

Collection Methods: Soil taken ~1 inch from surface, directly underneath mulch. White, plastic spoon used to scoop dirt into plastic bag.

Working on Phage but did not originally discover it: Benjamin Goncher, Hayden Tippmann
Naming NotesNamed after the Toreador Cockscomb flower (Celosia argentea ‘Toreador’), as this phage was collected underneath the roots of this flower. Collected at the Horticulture Garden of Purdue University.

Lysogeny NotesBecause the plaques have cloudy edges, it can be hypothesized that this phage is lysogenic or temperate. However, many agar plates were also completely lysed, so this phage could also be lytic. More research needs to be done to confirm.
Annotating InstitutionUnknown or unassigned
Annotation StatusNot sequenced
Plaque NotesAcross agar plates, the plaques were similar in small diameter/size, and visual characteristics - the plaques were clear, circular shapes with slightly cloudy edges.
