Discovery Notes | The phage was isolated from soil in front of the Andrew Commons cafeteria building. It rained the previous night and the surrounding area was on a higher elevation, making the area where I harvested a prime location for phage to accumulate based on the water run-off. The approximate temperature was 75 degrees Fahrenheit and the depth of the sample dug was around 3/4ths of an inch deep. Vegetation was also present about a foot away from the sample site. |
Naming Notes | The name comes from the way things always come in threes, forming the prefix tri-. The s was added to make the name sound more like a name and to fulfill the naming requirements. Coincidentally, Tris is also a chemical compound often used in biochemistry and molecular biology labs. |
