Discovery NotesThis bacteriophage was directly isolated from a soil sample in Ellicott City, Maryland. The soil was brown, dry, and shaded under several evergreen trees. The temperature was 66 degrees Fahrenheit when the soil was collected, and the soil was collected from the top of the surface.
Naming NotesUSSVoyager was named after the starship “USS Voyager” from Star Trek. We named it this, because, in our interpretation, bacteriophages have a morphology similar to those of starships with a distinct head and tail.
