Discovery NotesThe sample was obtained near the side of a pond around vegetation which included long and short grasses and plants. It was also along a walking path with a lot of stones. The dirt is slightly moist and a dark brown color with a grainy texture. The GPS coordinates where the soil was obtained was in the Amherst area at the Campus Pond. The area of Amherst has a lot of nutrient rich soil and farmland where crops such as oats and barley grow. This gives potential insight into more about the location where the phage was adopted.
Naming NotesThe phage name that our group chose is Woodsen. We came up with this name from the dental instrument consisting of a two ended instrument one end being a spatula and the other end being a condenser thus being a woodsen. The instrument is used in general dentistry for composite fillings, it is a very versatile instrument used for packing and shaping a composite filling.
