Discovery NotesThe sample that I took was taken alongside The Union Club Hotel on North Grant St near its variety of vegetation. Although the soil sample itself was not underneath any growing plant or flower, there were mixed grasses and trees near where I took my soil sample. The sample was taken in a 15 mL test tube and was about ¾ full. The temperature the soil was taken at was 70 degrees, with the sample being cooler as it was taken in the morning at around 8am. The soil felt damp, although there was no rain this weekend. The soil was also compacted instead of dry and are sticking to each other. The sample was taken off the surface of the ground to about 3 cm underneath. However, when I arrived in the lab, I used a spatula to remove the soil until it was around 8-9 mL, which was about ½ of the test tube.
Naming NotesThis name is a combined name of my younger siblings. Sanya and Zavian are my siblings names, and I thought to combine their names together for this phage.

Plaque NotesThe plaque morphology indicates numerous characteristics about my phage. After doing some research, it seems that a clear plaque is in its lytic phage. This means that the phage latches on to the bacteria, replicates inside of it, and then makes the cell burst. This also then results in a release of phages. Having a larger size can mean that the phage can replicate in a quick manner. Lastly, I am assuming that with a phage that is almost perfectly round, it will be steady in doing it’s job. Structure determines function, so if it has a perfectly round shape, it should be perfectly stable in carrying out its function. These characteristics will affect the phage’s use in real-world applications since it can cure many diseases using phage therapy. Since this phage is stable enough to replicate and make the cell burst, it could perform well in what it needs to do. This is due to the lytic nature of the phage. Hence, phage therapy would be an ideal real world application for this phage.
