Discovery NotesFound under a larger bush in moist soil. The weather that day was fairly warm with little to no wind and since the bush hosted a lot of other organisms, that might've explained why we were able to find the phage there. By the time we brought the soil sample into the lab, it was still fresh and less than 12 hours old.
Naming Notes“Zoomass” is one of the many nicknames for UMass Amherst since it’s to describe the popular party culture here at the university. Since one of the first things we did for bio153 was to collect dirt, we decided to combine the two names together to make ZooDirt - a tribute to our university’s culture and to our lab’s first activity.
