Discovery NotesSoil was collected from compost at the Chadwick Garden on the UCSC campus. Samples were then incubated with M.smegmatis for 1-2 days, and filtered media was spotted on a lawn of M. smegmatis to detect phage by plaque presence. Homogenous plaques were achieved through repeatedly picking plaques and plating dilutions with M. smegmatis.
Naming NotesNemain is a figure in Irish mythology associated with war and nightmare. In the Tain Bo Cuailnge, she shows up the night before the battle to sow terror and chaos in the sleeping army.
