Discovery NotesThe original soil sample was collected near the Denton Recycling Center by Ahmad Sulaiman on August 29, 2021 at 5:30pm CST. The soil was taken from ~1in under the ground in a damp area. It was sunny at 88°F or around 31°C at the time of collection.
Naming NotesThis phage was named after the Cherokee word meaning “waters”. This was chosen because of Luka’s indigenous heritage in the Cherokee tribe, as well as because the bacteria the phage infects is commonly found in areas of high rainfall or near bodies of water. The name if written using the official Cherokee syllabary is “ᎠᎹᏱ”.
