Plaque Notes | After 48 hours at 37 degrees Celsius, Aurora formed plaques of two distinct morphologies. One of which was described as the “comet” morphology, and was the more dominant shape. This comet shape consisted of a small, clear circle surrounded by a larger, turbid oval, in which the clear center was offset to one side of the oval. This gave the appearance of a comet, where the clear circular area was the head and the opposite end, the tail. The size of these plaques was generally 3.53 mm in diameter. The less dominant shape was simply a smaller, clear circle, with no traces of turbidity near the edges. However before these two morphologies developed, after 24 hours all of the plaques on the plate were all extremely small, turbid circles and none had the distinct comet shape. At that time, they had an average plaque size of 0.64 mm in diameter. |
