Discovery NotesThe phage was discovered and extracted from a narrow stream behind the Ottawa Valley Wild Bird Care Centre. The sample was collected via direct isolation. The soil itself was a warm dark brown colour, densely packed, and very damp.
Naming NotesThis name stems from the location where the phage was extracted as well as the plaque morphology of the phage. The phage was found behind the Ottawa Valley Wild Bird Care Centre hence the Avian portion of the name. In addition, the particular phage morphology resembles an eye. Thus came the name Avianocculus essentially meaning “birds eye”.
