Discovery Notes | Found at the Massey University Community Garden Box, in wet, soft soil under straw. Adopted from another student in the program (Natasha Elliston-Boyes). Temperature on day of discovery was 21 degrees Celsius. |
Naming Notes | Daegal is an Anglo-Saxon name that means "Dweller by the dark stream." This was apt as the phage was found in a garden near a forest stream. It also refers to this phage 'hiding' until it was isolated by phage-hunters. |

Plaque Notes | Plaques are very consistent in size and morphology. They are approximately 0.75 mm in diameter. Plaques are uniformly and completely clear in the centre with a circular in shape and clearly defined edges. Some evidence of lysogenic mesa was seen when very high titres (10^9) were spotted on bacterial lawn. The mesa in the centre of the clearance was not very opaque but definitely more cloudy than the usual completely clear lytic plaques. |
