Discovery Information
Isolation HostMycobacterium smegmatis mc²155
Found ByMeghan Keleher
Year Found2012
Location FoundHartford, CT USA
Finding InstitutionTrinity College
ProgramScience Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science
From enriched soil sample?Yes
Isolation TemperatureNot entered
GPS Coordinates41.75 N, 72.69 W Map
Discovery NotesSoil collected in front of the Trinity College library on a patch of mostly dead grass. The soil was light to medium colors brown on surface but much darker once dug a little further down. Soil sample taken near a storing drain and sewer. No sprinklers nearby.
Naming NotesEvanesce was chosen as it is a synonym for disappearing. When the EM picture was being taken of my phage, the tails would begin to disappear before the picture could be taken.

Plaque NotesPhage is clear with a slight bull's eye. Faint turbid "halo". Mean diameter 24 hours post-infection was 0.8mm. 48 hours post- infection the phage grew in size to about 2.4mm and had a dark bull's eye in the middle with a lighter dark ring around the bull's eye and then a clear halo surrounding that.
