| Discovery Notes | The soil came from directly next to Connelly Hall. No one walks on that dirt but there is a path right below the hill it is on. The hill is sloped towards the path. There was a bush next to the area but minimal grass. There was no water source near the area and it was in an urban area. |
| Naming Notes | For as long as I can remember, I always stated that my passion for science was due to my Nana (grandmother). When I was younger, my Nana was always in the hospital or in rehab. Though it was saddening to see her in such pain, these experiences with my Nana inside such facilities helped me realize my passion for science. I always attributed my love for science to my Nana. Since my Nana's passing on March 6, 2017, my mother, Sharon, has become the vessel for which my love for science has grown. She motivated me to apply to become a McNulty Scholar. She listened to my lectures about proteins after I read my AP Biology textbook. Now, I've come to realize that my Nana initiated my love for science, and my mother supports my passion day after day. When I first found my phage, it was a small cluster of tiny plaques that looked like the center of a flower. Since the day I entered phage lab, I imagined naming my phage with some phage on words (get it, it's supposed to be play on words but I said phage on words), but the name I chose is better than any play on words I could have devised. "FloweroSharon6" encompasses the moment I first saw my phage (flower), the person who encouraged me to apply for phage lab (my mother, Sharon), and the person who started it all (my Nana who passed on March 6). Pronounced: "flower-o-Sharon 6" |
