Discovery NotesI discovered the phage by a metal chain-link fence near the intersection of Villa Crescent and Prince of Wales Drive in Ottawa, Ontario. The soil itself was found 3cm below a grass lawn, dark brown in colour, and fairly moist.
Naming NotesGerby was inspired by the Nintendo character Kirby who's round nature reminded me of a plaque. In addition to this, it is also a nickname that my friends have given me, so I thought it would be fitting for my bacteriophage.

Plaque NotesMy plaques were large in size and had a bullseye morphology. This indicates that these phages can undergo both the lytic and lysogenic cycle and have a low affinity for the bacterial host which allows them to spread faster.
