Discovery NotesSoil collected in Denton, Texas near an apartment complex and forest clearing on the coordinates (33.2009487°, -97.1311231°). Collected one handful of soil via holding plastic bag inversely, wearing the plastic bag like a glove and retrieving the dirt in a fistful about 4 inches from ground's surface. Extraction occurred at around noon and the soil's wet surface was accompanied by a slight stench. Temperature during collection was 52°F and the area had previously been covered in the ice/snow that had occurred approximately 72 hours prior.
Naming NotesI named it Grendel due to my love of the character Grendel from the online game Warframe. Additionally, Grendel consumes enemies in-game and this characterization is what I connected to the way the phages would lyse the bacteria.
