Discovery NotesAt 2:57 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, I collected a sand sample from a location at 33.21218°N, 97.15016°W, where a chopped-off tree with its root still attached to the ground was situated. The temperature at the time was 94°F, with a humidity level of 40%.
Naming Notes"Hamal" is the name of the brightest star in the Aries Constellation. I am an Aries and my phage reminds me of this star.

Lysogeny NotesLysogeny Test 1, 2, and 3 showed negative results. No signs of clearing or plaque formation were observed. Negative results of the lysogeny experiments suggest that Hamal is not a temperate phage, and its life cycle is likely to be lytic, resulting in the lysis of its host bacteria. These results are consistent with the observed plaque morphology and the high titer lysate obtained, which are characteristic of a lytic phage.
