| Discovery Notes | Our phage Hanaia was found at 47 degrees 39'57" N 117 degrees 24'15" W on the shore of a pond on the Southwest side of campus (Gonzaga University) in wet soil, where the surface was covered by moss. Our phages diameter ranged from 2-2.5 mm. They are clear, round, have regular borders and range from tiny to medium in size. TEM images allowed us to conclude that the morphotype of our phage is Siphovirdae. Gel electrophoresis of restriction enzyme digest results showed us that the DNA for HaeIII was cut at 0.7 kb, Nspl at 10.0 kb, SacII at 6.0 kb and SalI at 11 kb. |
