Discovery NotesHelel was isolated from soil collected from a plot of dirt near a pond, separate from any natural debris. The surrounding temperature ranged in the mid 50° F, and the air was humid during collection. Direct isolation yielded two plaque morphologies, one with a large halo and the other with a smaller halo. Helel was derived from the morphology with a large halo, though after further dilution, Helel produced clear plaques with small halos that were purified, amplified, and archived.
Naming NotesThe name Helel means "Shining One," and refers to the morning star Venus. The main reason this name was chosen is because the name ‘Helel’ served as a minor character in the Shin Megami Tensei/Persona videogame series, and his depiction in Persona 3 intrigued me. Helel was also my cat's name when I was in elementary school.
